And David’s sensible reply

Cheryl,

Easiest answer is to wait and see where the stations settle in after the 12th. Stations like channel 13 have been broadcasting on channel 18 in a digital format while continuing to broadcast in analog format on 13. Channel 18 is UHF channel and channel 13 is VHF; on the 12th they will stop broadcasting on 18 and start broadcasting on 13 but in a digital format. So to adjusting your antenna to receive channel 18 now will not be any good come the 12th.

This same situation is true for channels 9 and for 7 (not sure about 7). You will need to have an antenna that is capable of receiving BOTH VHF and UHF. Depending upon the age of your antenna you may or may not be OK. In your present location with the antenna you have did you receive channels 9 and 13 VHF analog? if so then you will most likely be OK with those channels come the 12th. The others (5 & 7) may take some tweaking after the 12th. If you received UHF channels before the gov’t stated this whole transition thing you will probably be OK.

Also there are rumors (perhaps real) that the stations will increase their broadcast power after the transition which makes sense as they have been footing the power bill to be broadcasting their signal twice up until the 12th. Just have to wait…which is a very hard thing to do…..

Hope this helps a bit,

Bests,

David
