Knitting and Splitting

by Cheryl on May 5, 2010

Today , for the first time ever, I knitted part of a to-be-felted piece from a pattern. It’s only a small purse and this is the first time in 55 years that I’ve knit something that I’ve intended to felt. Yes, I know I’m not “with” current knitting trends but that’s OK with me. This is knitting. Either it’s a part of how you define who you are or it’s not. No worries either way.

I also split firewood (by hand, with a maul), only 6 or 8 pieces but some of them needed to be broken down into 3 or 4 pieces each. It felt good and gave me some upper body exercise. I try to do a few pieces every day.

Those weren’t the important parts of my day . . . but the ones I wanted to share tonight.

cheryl, I just watched you video of the lovely blue cover, it is beautiful. There is a swatch on the board behind you that I am very interested in. Is there a video about that? If not can you tell me where I can find instructions. Thank you.

The swatch on the board behind you top is. Two colors bottom looks like single color. Is there a video about it? Thanks

Hi Frances,
That swatch is a Mosaic piece from Barbara Walker’s book on mosaic knitting. I’ve spent the last month building a video/fiber arts studio and packing up and moving out of the last one. It will be some time before I get this one functional but I will eventually get to it. It’s about DK weight and I used one strand of a wool tweed and I changed the other colors (Harrisville tweeds on cones) by holding 2 colors at a time and periodically introducing a new color . . . ombre style.
