Do you really want to blog?

July 18, 2010

It’s been over a year since I started writing a blog this so it’s a good time for me to evaluate how this is working for me. A blog can be personal or professional and I write between how each works, it appears. The professional ones seem contrived to promote sales. The personal ones seem mostly self-involved exposure of life’s events. Neither of these options are attractive to me..  Hmmm . . .

Maybe blogging is not my gig.

Funny, I was just thinking about you today and wondering when you would blog next.

My own experience is that it takes time for a blog to hit its stride. The more regularly you blog, the sooner it will happen. Also, you don’t really get to decide what your blog will be – it will shape itself over time, and you will begin to see the patterns in the body of work that merges over time.

Does that make sense?

Zoom . . . your blog is consistently interesting and worthy of reading. It’s one of my absolute favorites (and there are very few of those).

Maybe I need to forget the “purpose” and just write. Which I really enjoy. But I’m also afraid of revealing too much that is too personal. Why? Dunno.

A blog becomes a persona all its own. A character in its own story, if you will. It certainly can bring you friends and influence people ;-) (or the opposite!) If you give the blog time, it will speak of its needs.

Thank you for your perspective, Nancy. You and Zoom are more experienced at this than I and I appreciate your taking the time to comment.

i see you just got back from Camp and that you were in MI. Last summer Meg told me I could come and teach there any time . . . and I always have a family reunion in MI on the 4th that I usually go to, so I just may take her up on that.

I was in Mackinaw City on July 7th (the day after you were there) to visit Cynthia’s Fine Yarn and Gifts which is a charming and fascinating shop. I’m doing her fall retreat in October and wanted to meet her beforehand since I was in MI to be with family anyway. I’m excited about it because I think it’s going to be so much fun and valuable to knitters.

I do hope you will continue to blog Cheryl. And yes, forget the purpose, just write, let it flow.
