Afghan 101

First published by Patternworks in 1993, Afghan 101 is one of the most useful things I’ve ever written. I use it every time I make a blanket. You can get it HERE. For FREE. And I encourage you to pass it on.

And notice that I didn’t make you give me any of your information before I gave it to you. I would, however, love it if you joined my email newsletter group. Somewhere between once a week and once every few months you’ll get an email with article links, YouTube news, extra knitting tips, random yarny ideas, special offers, an occasional story and maybe my locally famous “Blackberry Cobbler for the Potluck” recipe which has nothing to do with knitting, but it’s really good. AND . . . you get to help me shape new programming and tools. I listen closer to the folks in my email group. I just do . . . Here’s your chance to join us.

  1. Thank you, Cheryl, for sharing the Afghan 101 pattern. I’m looking forward to trying it, but most likely I’ll use skeins from my over-grown yarn stash! Several grandchildren want one to take to college this fall….but I’m not sure they each will get their wish…with these multiple requests, I wish I could knit faster…I tried to learn knitting backwards when I was told that the process could make my knitting speedier on the return rows…I failed … 😃

And, should you decide to share your famous blackberry cobbler recipe, I’d love to try my hand at making it.

    Thank you!

  5. Dear Cheryl – thank you so much for your lovely meanderings – you leave me with a smile on my face. I am not a serious knitter, but read your posts and watch your you-tubes more because it is so inspiring to see someone who is so experienced and who enjoy what they do and who are so generous! Thank you SO much – you just made my day!

  6. Thanks for the article you wrote on sizes of quilts. Do you have a pattern that I can buy, etc on the amount of stitches I need to cast on to do an easy lap throw. I do knit but not that great but I love it!

  7. Thank you Cheryl. I have downloaded ‘Afghan 101’ and am in the process is disseminating your generous offer to Knitting Paradise, and Facebook in Australia.

    1. Thanks Lilly! I made a big goof and you are helping me rectify it. I took down an old version of Afghan 101 to revise the link in the footer and it messed up people’s access to the old version. It was at Knitting Paradise that someone had posted the link. I didn’t really understand the consequences for people until my son, who is my Monday Morning Business Coach, pointed it out to me. Thanks for helping me rectify the goof.

  8. Hi Cheryl,
I have already signed up for your e-mails, which is how I received the information here. Thank you soooo much for the FREE afghan info. I just love reading your missives. Your style of writing reminds me of (oh no, I shouldn’t say this) my mother. Sorry about that. Oh well, you’re probably younger than I am so it was meant to be a compliment. Anyhow, thank you for being you.

    1. Thank you for this sweet comment Betty and just so we’re clear, I’ll be 69 in August, and I think I would have liked meeting your mother. 😀 And you are so welcome.
